We think Saint Valentines Day is special and it’s all about romance and togetherness as a couple, and relaxing and enjoying a quiet day or two on your own. This tradition of Courtly love emanates from the Middle Ages and a third century Roman Saint. St Valentine (Latin Valentinus) was named after the Roman priest who was arrested and imprisoned by Claudius Gothicus for marrying Christians. He was beaten and eventually beheaded outside the Flaminian Gate on the 14th February 269 for refusing to deny Christ. Subsequently, he was venerated and made into a Saint. In 14th century England, Geoffrey Chaucer and his circle of friends created the feast day of the 14th February and has since been associated with Romantic Love.
